Sessions

Ways we can work together

If none of these quite fit what you are carrying, write anyway. It is a short conversation to find out.

Individual counselling

One-to-one sessions for adults working through anxiety, low mood, grief, burnout, or a change that has knocked things sideways.

Placeholder copy. Describe the approach in a sentence or two — how you work, what a session feels like, and what someone can expect to leave with.

  • A first session to understand what brought you here — no commitment beyond it
  • Sessions in English or Kannada
  • A pace set by you, not by a fixed programme
  • Written summary of any practical plan we agree on, if you want one

Counselling for young people

Sessions for teenagers and students, held with their trust protected and their parents kept appropriately informed.

Placeholder copy. Say how you work with younger clients and how confidentiality is handled between the young person and their family — parents read this section most closely.

  • A separate first conversation with a parent or guardian
  • Clear, agreed limits on what is and is not shared
  • Exam stress, friendship difficulty, family conflict, and low mood
  • Coordination with a school counsellor where that helps

Reflective supervision for counsellors, social workers, and NGO staff carrying difficult caseloads.

Placeholder copy. Describe who this is for and what a supervision hour looks like in practice.

How it works

From first message to first session

Four steps, none of which commit you to the next one.

  1. You write

A short message saying roughly what is going on. It does not need to be well organised — most first messages are not.

  2. We talk briefly

A free fifteen-minute call to check that I am the right person, and that the practical details work. No pressure either way.

  3. First session

Fifty minutes to understand what brought you here. You decide afterwards whether to continue.

  4. A rhythm

Usually weekly at first, then spaced out. Some people come for six sessions, some for a year. We review it openly.

Scope

What counselling here can and cannot do

Being clear about the second list is part of being trustworthy about the first.

Commonly brought here

  • Anxiety, panic, and persistent worry
  • Low mood and loss of motivation
  • Grief and bereavement
  • Relationship and family difficulty
  • Work stress and burnout
  • Life transitions — marriage, migration, parenthood, retirement
  • Self-esteem and the aftermath of criticism
  • Adjusting after a diagnosis

Better served elsewhere

  • Emergency psychiatric care or active suicidal crisis
  • Prescribing or reviewing medication
  • Court-ordered assessments or custody reports
  • Formal psychological testing and diagnosis

If you need one of these, say so and I will point you towards someone who can help. Being referred on is not a rejection.

Questions

The things people ask first

Is what I say really confidential?

Yes. Nothing you say leaves the session, with two narrow exceptions I will explain in our first meeting: a serious and immediate risk to your life or someone else’s, and a legal requirement such as a court order. If either ever arises, I will tell you what I have to do before I do it.

What does a session cost?

Fees are listed with each session type above. If cost is the thing standing in the way, say so in your first message — a limited number of reduced-fee places are kept open and asking for one changes nothing about how you will be treated.

Can we meet online?

Yes. Video sessions work well for most people and are the only option for clients outside Mysuru. You will need a private room and a reasonable connection; everything else I will set up.

Which languages do you work in?

English and Kannada. Many clients move between the two in a single session, which is welcome — some things are only available in a first language.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no honest answer to this before we have met. Some concerns settle in six sessions; others take longer. We review progress openly rather than drifting, and ending is a decision we make together.

What if I need to cancel?

Give me 24 hours’ notice and the session is rescheduled at no cost. Inside 24 hours, the session is charged, because the time was held for you. Genuine emergencies are treated as exactly that.

The agreement

Counselling terms

Placeholder — this section must be reviewed before launch. It should set out, in plain language, the terms a client is agreeing to.

Confidentiality

What is kept private, and the specific circumstances in which it would not be — risk to life, and legal compulsion. State who, if anyone, has access to records.

Records

What notes are kept, where they are stored, how long they are retained, and how a client can request them.

Cancellations and fees

The notice period, what is charged, and how payment is made.

Ending

How either of us can end the work, and what happens to records afterwards.

Complaints

How to raise a concern, and the professional body a client can escalate to.

If you need help right now

Counselling appointments are not an emergency service and I cannot respond to messages immediately. If you are in danger or thinking about ending your life, contact Tele-MANAS on 14416 (free, 24×7, available in Kannada and English), call 112, or go to your nearest hospital emergency department.

Before launch: verify these numbers are current.

First step

You can send a message before you are sure.

Most people write before they have worked out what to say. A few sentences is enough to begin, and I reply to every enquiry personally.
